This Glossary is only a sample of what all there is to picture framing. In the coming months we hope to have a more complete version running.

These items are listed for definitions only. We don't carry stock, or on sell them to customers on a regular basis. If you want anything you see here, try looking in your local yellow pages under picture framing wholesalers.

Braided cord made from Nylon that is used for hanging frames.

Expensive, weak, fiddley
Specialised tape that is used for archival picture attachment
Cheap, quality.
Can unstick.
Specific tape designed to seal the backs of frames.
Flexible, strong.
Fiddley, limited sizes.
Tide shaped metal fittings to hold stretchers into frames.

Weak, intrusive.
Generic metal fittings that can be used to hang frames
Flexible, strong.
Exclusive, fiddley, frame limits.
Specialised fittings designed to stop the loss of important pictures.
Flexible, re-usable, strong.

Part of an instilled hanging system that holds the picture.
Wide grip.
Weak grip, unsuitable for hangers.
Wide staples for fabric stretching and occasionally frame joining.
Strong grip.
Narrow piercing grip, unsuitable for canvas.
Narrow staples used for hangers, assembly and strengthening frame corners.
Cheap, usable fast.
Limited frame size. unwanted flexibility.
V shaped wedges that are fired into the back of frame corners to join.
