There are many different gallery hanging systems on the market, all delivering essentially the same thing. Basically what they consist of is a rail, a dropper, runners & a hook.
The rail is an aluminium extrusion that is screwed into the wall horizontally. This track has an opening underneath that allows the free movement of the runner, thus making the system flexible. There are several coverings you can get top cover this component that make it more attractive to some peoples tastes.
The runner is made of a small piece of metal or plastic & runs along the inside of the track providing the movement described above. It also is the anchoring point for the dropper.
The dropper is fixed to the runner above, & literally drops down, hanging from the rail. It is made of plastic line or ribbon or metal wire.
Onto the dropper the hook is attached. This is a specific hook designed to fix to only one brand of system. It is adjustable in the up & down plane & provides the facility to raise or lower your picture. The hook is kept in place by either a built in tightening screw or a allen key bolt.
One of the main advantages of these systems is that they are very versatile & reusable. For instance you can have an enormous & heavy picture hanging off 6 droppers on one wall. A poster hanging off 2 droppers on another wall. And 10 small pictures hanging off 1 dropper on another.
