Nylon cord is a braided form of nylon that is used in picture framing to serve as a hanger. It is usually used in the 1.5/3mm diameter range and is stapled or tied to the frame.
When it is stapled it is usually done so by narrow crown staples that grip much tougher than their wide crowned cousins. The cord is usually doubled back on itself so the cut end is facing towards the centre of the frame, stopping it from showing out of the edges.
When the cord is tied to the frame, it is usually attached to a D ring, screw eye or simply a normal screw that is affixed to the back of the frame.
In either of these operations, though more prevalently when tied, the end pieces are finished off. By finishing off we mean either taping crimping or burning the frayed edges so that they fray no more and are more neat. Much the same as an aglet on a shoe lace, a tight piece of tape can prolong the durability of the cord.
