Wide crown picture framing staples are made from galvanised wire that is bent into shape & roughly sharpened. They are called wide crown because the middle section of the staple ( the crown ) is wide. They differ from narrow crown staples in that they are of course wider, though also in their use.
They are primarily used to stretch fabrics onto strainer frames. They are especially good at this because the wide crown grips a larger section of material meaning less stress on the threads & a smoother griping pucker.
